Meet Zikhaya Sithole, an ordinary man who became an extraordinary hero in the face of overwhelming danger. 

It was a day like any other, filled with the mundane routines of daily life, until Zikhaya heard screams and saw billowing smoke rising from a nearby shack. Without a second thought, he sprinted towards the burning shark, where a frantic mother pleaded for help - her two young children were trapped inside.

In a heart-stopping display of courage and selflessness, Zikhaya rushed into the blaze, determined to save the helpless toddlers. The intense heat and suffocating smoke did not deter him as he pushed forward, driven by an unwavering determination to rescue the innocent lives at stake.

Within the inferno, he found the first child, and swiftly carried the little one to safety. But Zikhaya's mission was far from over. Despite the raging fire and mounting danger, he attempted to re-enter the shack to save the second child - a one-year-old baby -  but the flames had grown too powerful, forcing him to retreat.

"I was coming from a shop with a friend when I saw smoke and heard screams from local residents. I rushed to the location to see what was happening. That’s when I saw the flames and heard the mother screaming that her babies were inside the shack. I immediately pulled my hat over my face and ran into the flames, I heard the babies crying. I grabbed the baby who was on the bed and ran out, but when I wanted to go back for the other one, the flames were too strong."

Though Zikhaya's valiant efforts ultimately saved the life of one child, the emotional and physical toll was immense. He suffered severe third-degree burns to his face and hands, leaving him with permanent injuries that would forever remind him of that fateful day. But in the face of unimaginable adversity, Zikhaya found solace in the knowledge that he had made a difference.

"I never regretted entering that shack," Zikhaya reflects. "I have saved a child. I only wish I could have saved them both." 

His unwavering courage and selflessness have touched the lives of countless people who have heard his story, inspiring others to act with compassion and valor in times of need.
