In a world where fairy tales and happily-ever-afters often shape our perceptions of love, Evah Thembi Ngobeni dares to unveil the darker side of romance in her soul-stirring poem, "I Fell in Love."

Through vivid imagery and raw emotion, Ngobeni takes readers on a haunting journey, exploring the depths of deception, betrayal, and heartbreak.

From the onset, the poem sets a somber tone with the haunting line, "Warnings came, but I turned a deaf ear, / Blinded by love's veil, dismissing their fear."

Ngobeni highlights the intoxicating power of love to cloud our judgment, as the narrator chooses to ignore the well-intentioned warnings of others.

This poignant theme resonates deeply with anyone who has ever experienced the all-consuming pull of love, blindly disregarding the opinions of friends and family.

Ngobeni masterfully utilizes the motif of blindness throughout the poem, emphasizing the narrator's vulnerability in the face of love's beguiling charm.

The line "I craved your presence, in your arms alone" exemplifies this notion, portraying the narrator as utterly entranced by their partner's allure, leaving them susceptible to manipulation.

As the poem unfolds, the harsh reality of the narrator's perilous situation becomes increasingly apparent.

The chilling line "But then you turned, your love a lie, / Forcing me home beneath the night sky" illustrates the devastating consequences of the narrator's misplaced trust.

The contrast between the promised love and the violent act that unfolds creates a palpable sense of dread and heartbreak.

The poet's vivid descriptions paint a visceral image of the tragic outcome: "As I lay here, blood staining the ground, / My parents weep for the justice unfound."

The gruesome scene serves as a stark reminder of the devastating toll that manipulative and violent relationships can have on both the victims and their loved ones.

In the final stanza, Ngobeni delivers the ultimate blow: "Your smile, once warm, now cold and fake, / A facade that fooled me, a cruel mistake."

The revelation of her partner's true nature is a harrowing conclusion that leaves readers grappling with the bittersweet truth that love, in all its beauty, can sometimes harbor a dark and sinister underbelly.

"I Fell in Love" is a compelling and thought-provoking poem that forces readers to confront the harsher realities of love and relationships.

Evah Thembi Ngobeni's raw and emotional exploration of the darker facets of romance is a testament to her literary prowess and a powerful reminder of the importance of self-awareness and caution when navigating the tumultuous waters of love.

I FELL IN LOVE (POEM) By Evah Thembi

Warnings came, but I turned a deaf ear,
Blinded by love's veil, dismissing their fear.
They spoke of your past, your time in jail,
Yet i believed in the love we'd unveil.

You were my escape, my Solace, my own,
I craved your presence, in your arms alone.
Yet now I see, my folly laid bare,
My ignorance led me into despair.

I recall your fear, your eyes ablaze,
Yet I brushed it off, lost in love's daze.
You spoke of threats, of jealousy 's grip,
I laughed it off, let your words slip.

But then you turned, your love a lie,
Forcing me home beneath the night sky.
I never imagined such pain from your hand,
Violating my trust, my body unmanned.

The one who professed love , now holds the knife ,
Ending my days, extinguishing life.
As I lay here, blood staining the ground,
My parents weep for the justice unfound.

Your smile, once warm, now cold and fake,
A facade that fooled me ,a cruel mistake.
I indeed fell in love with a murder.
